Captain America - Move over Spider-Man and Batman. The true American superhero is now on the big screen. Fans of the comic book and anyone who are familiar with the name Captain America will find great news with the release of its movie adaptation this 2011. Captain America: The First Avenger brings to life character, Steve Rogers, a scrawny fine arts student who was rejected by the U.S. Army for his lack of necessary skills to be a soldier. Meanwhile, Army General Chester Phillips spotted and offered Steve a chance to take part as a test subject in an important military project (Operation Rebirth) that aims to create super soldiers. Steve agreed and later became

the subject of the test. Dr. Josef Reinstein (changed to Abraham Erskine) injected him with a Super Soldier serum that would alter his genetic codes and turn him into a superior warrior. After a series of unfortunate events including the death of Dr. Erskine, Steve Rogers donned the superhero costume and officially became Captain America. Captain American then went to a mission to uphold peace and order in the country by foiling the Red Skull, another super soldier from the Russian camp. In his fight with the Red Skull, Captain America sacrificed himself and ends up iced for sixty years. Now, that the country is in danger once again, Captain America is revived and is set to join a group of modern superherois to defend America. Directed by Joe Johnson, Captain America is slated for premiere on July 22, 2011. Although there is no official announcement yet about the actors who will play the roles, it has been confirmed already that Chris Evans from the Fantastic Four movie, will don the costume of Captain America in this film. For the role of Peggy Carter, Steve Roger's girlfriend, rumors are circulating that Keira Knightly, Alice Eve, and Hayley Attwell are running as strong candidates for the role. The release of this film is very timely, especially now that America is still in some form of a battle with the economic recession and all. Although Spider-Man, Superman, and Batman, both giant comic book adaptations, already fit the bill of an American superhero, Captain America still has an extra edge. Primarily, it's because of his name as the superhero of the country. He also partly represents the underdog since he was a commoner before becoming a superhero. Definitely the film does not only cater to the American market. As a comic book, Captain America has captured the hearts of many readers around the globe, so there is a high chance that the movie would be at par with other super hero movies in terms box office success and acceptance of fans worldwide.
