If you like watching action-packed films that also give you a dose of fantasy and visual treats, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is one film you should not miss. Based on the video game of the same title, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time tells the tale of adventures of Prince Dastan as he fulfills his destiny to save the world. The movie revolves around his mission of taking the Dagger with the ability to unlock the sands of time to the Guardian Temple. He needs to take the dagger to the secret temple before Nizam, a man with evil intentions, could use the dagger to complete his villainous plans of releasing a sandstorm so strong it could annihilate the entire world. Through the help of Princess Tamina,
Dastan protects the dagger and uses it to save the world from destruction. The cast is star-studded with Jake Gyllenhall as Prince Dastan, Gemma Arterton as Princess Tamina, Alfred Molina as Shiek Amar, and Ben Kingsley as Nizam. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer took Jordan Mechner, writer of Pirates of the Caribbean to be part of the film production. Instead of using the same storyline as that of the video game version, Bruckheimer and Mechner decided to make a whole new adventure for Prince Dastan without taking out some known references from the game. They created a new story for the film with the help of another screenwriter Jeffrey Nachmanoff. It is not entirely different from the story in the game. The screenwriters made some modifications for the story to be easily told in the movie. In Prince of Persia: Sands of Time the movie, the Prince and other characters were given names. Princess Farah, the lady love of Prince Dastan was changed to Princess Tamina. Instead of the being a vizier, the movie presented the antagonist Nizam as a power-hungry nobleman. Walt Disney has decided to do release the film on different dates for each region. The movie will be shown first in Europe on May 19, 2010, then the UK on May 21. The US release will on May 28, 2010, then the Asian release will follow. The official movie trailer has been released and from the looks of it, it seems that the movie will reap the same success such as that of Pirates of the Caribbean. Jake Gyllenhall really has the look and the aura of Prince Dastan spot on. The special effects in the trailer are also superb and it would be interesting to see it on 3D. On the other hand, the production team of the movie did not digitally adapt it to 3D format. Let us hope that the production would change their mind about this.
