There are a lot of movies that come in the form of trilogies. It has been known to be as a magic number as everything that can be covered by the story can be theoretically done so in three instalments. However Shrek Goes Fourth is one of those movies that push the envelope further by breaking the third barrier. When a movie hits the fourth instalment, there's no telling how many more it can churn out. But in the case of the Shrek franchise, they claimed that Shrek Goes Fourth will be the final chapter. But then again, for a movie that doesn't exactly take itself too seriously, who knows if we would suddenly find ourselves a year from now with a "Final Final Chapter" instalment? In this movie,
we see that Shrek has become a full-time domesticated dad. Even an ogre must, after all, spend time with his kids and uphold a family as large as he has. He has come a long way from scaring off intruders from his home and is now found signing pitch forks and changing diapers. Shrek soon realizes that he has lost his old self and like every other man with an existential crisis, Shrek tries to find a way to get back to his old self. In Shrek Goes Fourth, he is tricked into signing a pact which turns his whole world topsy turvy. This upcoming movie shows us an alternate Far Far Away where the strangest things are possible and the most mundane things are not. It is a bit interesting to note that in Shrek Goes Fourth, Donkey is actually an intellectual, Lord Farquaad is still alive and Puss is extremely fat and just as lazy. One can see that the creators of the Shrek movies are playing around with as many ideas as they can and this direction is one of the most interesting ones to put out. The best thing about the fairytale fantasy type of movie is that there is plenty of material to go around and you almost can never go wrong. The question stands though will Shrek Goes Fourth ever go wrong? After three instalments, we have grown to love these quirky characters. How will the audience take seeing a fat Puss? An intellectual Donkey? Will the audience and fans pick up their pitchforks in protest or will Shrek Goes Fourth be handled gracefully that it provides entertainment and insight within its story? The only way to find out of course is to watch the movie and try to resist all assumptions before sitting down to watch it. Shrek is out to save the world once again, but this time he is saving it from something of his own doing.
